As businesses grow, they often find themselves needing to update their website—to bring it in line with current web and security standards, or a larger overhaul to refresh the look and match a new marketing campaign or logo design.
Naturally, this process often means finding a new website developer to capture the look and feel you’re aiming for. Here at InnoScale, we think this is great, and we look forward to working with you and your developer to reach the look, feel, and performance you desire! Newer websites with updated content attract far more visitors than websites that looked dated, and that means more revenue for your business.
One potential pitfall in this process that we’ve seen over the years, is when developers want to “bundle” their design services with a hosting package on “their platform.” On the surface, this may seem like a good deal because it is one-stop shopping for the client, unfortunately—like many things—the devil is in the details… Exactly what quality hosting is bundled with the development services?
In order to keep costs low, many developers chose the cheapest hosting platform they can find. This invariably results in them putting as many websites on the same server as possible, resulting in sub-par services that slow performance for the client’s website and increase security risks by exposing your website to the problems other websites on that server may experience (hacking, DDoS, etc.). Most developers are also not as well-versed in server optimization and security as true server administrators, another significant pitfall of the “one stop shopping” sales pitch that sometimes gets given to clients.
Rest assured, you do not have to allow the developer to dictate to you which hosting provider you have to go with. Unless you are unhappy with your current hosting provider, you should remember that you chose them for a reason. At InnoScale, our clients uniformly tell us that they chose InnoScale for our optimized setups, exceptional support staff, 99.999% uptime guarantee, and our willingness and ability to work with outside developers to successfully deploy and maintain your website.
We understand that most developers like to deal with what they know, or what they are comfortable with. Here at InnoScale we want to work with these developers, and create a good relationship with them for two reasons: First, we want to keep your business, and second we also want to create a lifelong relationship with web developers and designers.
If you are considering moving your hosting services when your developer finishes their work, we would recommend that you have a separate conversation with them and make sure they have answers you find acceptable to the following questions:
- What kind of platform are you hosting my website on? Is this a Cloud Server, Dedicated Server, Virtual Server, or shared hosting? How many other clients are or will be on the same server as me?
- Is my website monitored 24/7 by a team of professionals, who will intervene on my behalf if it’s 3am and there’s a problem, and I can’t be reached?
- Is on-going server maintenance and optimization, not just website maintenance, included to ensure my website remains fast and I am protected against new security threats?
At InnoScale, we understand our role. We want you to succeed at running your business, and we want to provide the rock-solid platform on which you host your website. We are server and platform administrators, infrastructure architects, and die-hard performance fanatics. We understand your developer’s role is also critical to your success and thoroughly enjoy working hand in hand with them to achieve your success!
